Alert Types and Use Cases

Purpose: Define the criteria for triggering alerts based on data patterns.

  • Threshold Alert Triggers when a metric or log event crosses a predefined threshold (e.g., CPU usage > 80%). Use case: Detecting performance anomalies or resource exhaustion.

  • Change Alert Activates when a metric or event changes by a specified percentage or absolute value (e.g., a 20% increase in error rates). Use case: Identifying sudden fluctuations or trends.

  • Absence Alert Fires when a metric or event fails to occur within a defined timeframe (e.g., no logs for 5 minutes). Use case: Monitoring system availability or expected activity.
