# Basic Configuration of a Pipeline with In-Stream Alerts
> Walk through a pipeline that uses in-stream alerts to flag change conditions on individual components before data is indexed.
The [In-stream Alerts](/telemetry-pipelines/set-in-stream-alerts) feature enables you to set alert conditions for any component of a pipeline, which means you can receive alerts for data in-stream, instead of having to wait for the change condition to be indexed by your observability tool.
## Pipeline Architecture
